About the speaker:
Duran Sürün is a Junior Research Group Leader at the University of Heidelberg, where he leads a research group at the Pharmacological Institute, Heidelberg within the Health + Life Science Alliance Heidelberg Mannheim. He completed his PhD at the Goethe University Frankfurt in 2018 and subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at the Technische Universität Dresden until 2024. Over the course of his career, he has built expertise in genome editing, protein engineering, and gene therapy, working across interdisciplinary teams and collaborations that bridge basic and translational biomedical science. His current position as a junior PI reflects a trajectory shaped by international training, collaborative research, and mentorship within leading biomedical research environments.
